Ghirardelli is born

Our newest cria, Spats Ghirardelli, was born on December 12, 2008.  He weighed in at 17.6 pounds, and was standing by his mother Champagne in the barn when I first saw him that Friday afternoon.  He is a beautiful rich dark brown color with a white face and white spats on his front feet.  Since Champagne is a first time mother, it took her a day to become accustomed to motherhood.  By Saturday her milk was in, and Ghirardelli was nursing regularly.  Today, at nine days of age, Ghirardelli is running around the pasture trying to keep up with Freckled Rose - our November cria.
