Last Thursday a small tornado zigzagged its way through the woods behind our pastures, and took down several large trees in the yard, pastures and woods. Mother Nature had a small temper tantrum right on our farm! It was a reminder of how unexpected events can really affect your farm and your weekend. This weekend will be spent with a chainsaw, chopping the downed trees into manageable pieces to be then hauled away.

The animals were all huddled into the barn during the storm and no one was hurt, even though several large tree limbs landed just outside their stalls. We were very blessed that there was no roof damage, and our house was not even touched. Later in the same evening tornados touched down just east of us and tore the roofs off of several houses in Haines City subdivisions.
Our alpacas are unperturbed at this turn of events. The little ones have made a game out of chasing each other through the puddles that linger in the pastures, while their mothers calmly explore the smaller branches lying around for any tasty leaves.

And so...life goes on as we clear out all the dead wood and clean up the pastures. Thankfully the weather is still cool, reaching only into the mid seventies during the daytime, so the work is not unpleasant. Such is life on a farm.
